Sports Profile
The Penn Quakers compete in the Ivy League, recognized for success in athletics while keeping an emphasis on maintaining its high academic standards.

The University has an outstanding weight training program, which includes a full-time strength coach. The state-of-the-art weight room with nine tons of free weights is located at Franklin Field, originally opened in 1895 for the first running of the Penn Relays, and site of the nation's first scoreboard, the first football radio broadcast (1922) and first football telecast (1939). Penn basketball games are played at the Palestra, one of the most storied buildings in hoops history, hosting more games and NCAA tournaments than any other facility.

Quaker athletes have been well represented in professional sports. Current major league baseball players include Doug Glanville and Mark DeRosa.
