Multicultural Profile

When students describe Towson University, they often mention the strong
sense of community on campus. While college brings together people with many
different ideas and interests, students find Towson a friendly, open
community where people treat one another with respect. Our students come
from around the country and the world. We offer many resources on campus
that serve our diverse student population.

o Over 850 international students from 94 different countries attend TU.
o Approximately 16 percent of TU students are classified as minorities.
o Almost 30 percent of our fall 2000 freshman class came from out-of-state.
o The African American Cultural Center offers programs and activities that
reflect the history and culture of people of African descent.
o The Asian Arts & Culture Center hosts exhibitions, lectures, workshops, films and
concerts featuring nationally known speakers, artists and performers. The
center also serves as a social and cultural link between the Asian community
and the university.
o A number of student organizations serve our diverse population, including the
Caribbean Student Organization, Chinese Students and Scholars Association, Jewish
Student Association and the Hispanic Student Organization. Meetings and events
sponsored by these organizations are open to all students.
o Our Multicultural Institute encourages diversity through curriculum transformation.
o TU&Mac226;s English Language Center paired over 100 American and international students
in its Conversation Partners program.
