Overview
Thomas Edison State College is located in the capital city of Trenton, New Jersey. Originally founded in 1972 to serve the needs of adult students exclusively, this world-renowned institution is a national leader in the assessment of adult learning and a pioneer in the use of educational technologies. One of New Jerseys 12 senior public institutions of higher education, Thomas Edison State College is accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. Programs
Thomas Edison State College offers three master’s degree programs that have broad appeal to adult students who desire to build professional expertise through completing quality, online degreesthe Master of Science in Human Resources Management (MSHRM), the Master of Science in Management(MSM) and the Master of Arts in Professional Studies (MAPS). The College’s 12 undergraduate degrees are Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science in Applied Science and Technology, Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, Bachelor of Science in Human Services, Bachelor of Science in Nursing (an online-based distance learning program for registered nurses (RNs) who are currently licensed in the United States and who want an alternative to campus-based instruction), Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences (a joint degree program with the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) School of Health Related Professions (SHRP), Associate in Arts, Associate in Applied Science, Associate in Science in Management, Associate in Science in Applied Science and Technology, Associate in Science in Natural Sciences and Mathematics, and Associate in Science in Public and Social Services.
Thomas Edison State College also offers certificates in the following professional areas: Accounting; Administrative Office Management; Computer Aided Design; Computer Information Systems; Computer Science; Electronics; Finance; Fitness and Wellness Services; Human Resources Management; Labor Studies; Marketing; Operations Management; and Public Administration. Certificates fulfill the needs of a diverse group of students. In some cases, certificates may be earned by those students not enrolled in a degree program but pursuing credits in a particular area in order to gain college-level knowledge and to have that knowledge academically recognized (put on a transcript). Others may earn certificates that coincide with particular degree requirements that they are pursuing. There is no limit to the number of certificates that may be earned by a student.
Applying
Adults 21 years of age with a high school diploma, who are seeking an associate, baccalaureate or masters degree or a certificate, are eligible to become Thomas Edison State College students. There are no tests required for admission to Thomas Edison State College. Because Thomas Edison State College delivers high-quality education directly to students wherever they live or work, students may complete degree requirements at their convenience without travel to the Thomas Edison State College campus. A computer is required only to take Thomas Edison State College courses offered online, and for the graduate degree programs. Once a student is enrolled in a specific degree program, an evaluator determines the number of credits the student has already earned and fits those into the degree program requirements.
Costs and Financial Aid
Tuition is payment for all costs directly associated with the academic delivery of a Thomas Edison State College education to registered students. Fees are designated as payment for administrative services associated with other activities in support of that educational process and for materials used by students for courses and other activities undertaken by them. Thomas Edison State College offer one annual tuition plan, the Comprehensive Tuition Plan, for students who want access to all components of the tuition package. For those students who have determined that their particular situation is one where only components of the Comprehensive Tuition Plan are required, the College offers the Enrolled Options Plan. Thomas Edison State College participates in a number of federal and state aid programs. Eligible Thomas Edison State College students who are taking the required number of Thomas Edison State College courses may be considered for Pell Grants and federal loans. Eligible New Jersey residents may also tap a variety of state grants and loan programs. Students may use state aid to meet all or part of their college costs, provided they are taking at least 12 credits per semester.
