College Description
Located on the historic North Shore of New York’s Long Island, the State University of New York College at Old Westbury is a community dedicated to learning and leadership. The only public four-year arts, science and business campus on Long Island, Old Westbury features a 604-acre campus of spectacular wooded and open land located just 20 miles from the center of New York City. Here, a small-college environment exists where each student is urged to develop his or her individual talents, learn how that talent can be applied in society, and set the foundation for a lifetime of career, community and personal excellence. The strength of the College’s academic offerings has attracted the interest of what has become one of the most diverse student populations in the nation. Offering the instruction to this multicultural body of students is an equally diverse, internationally acclaimed faculty that boasts the highest percentage of Distinguished Teaching and Service Professors in the SUNY system. Old Westbury students learn from instructors who include Fulbright Scholars, a CASE New York State Professor of the Year and recent recipients of awards and research grants from prestigious foundations and institutions around the world.

Academic Life
Our goal is to prepare you to achieve your potential, and to create the career and life you imagine. We offer more than 30 degree programs in 15 academic departments. All are respected programs offering real-world experience. You may choose from a variety of liberal arts and professional programs, and the College has an exemplary history in offering interdisciplinary and discipline-specific majors. Degrees are conferred in majors leader to Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Professional Studies degrees. All degree programs incorporate general education course requirements. In addition to satisfying the demands of the traditional college student, Old Westbury has a history of offering programs and services keenly attuned to meeting the needs of non-traditional students. Old Westbury’s degree programs include: Accounting; American Studies; Biological Sciences; Chemistry; Comparative Humanities; Criminology; Elementary Education; Elementary Education (bilingual); Finance; Health & Society; Industrial & Labor Relations; Language & Literature (Multicultural English); Language & Literature (World Literature); Management Information Systems; Marketing; Mathematics; Media & Communications; Philosophy & Religion; Politics, Economics & Society; Psychology; Secondary Education (with specializations in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Spanish); Sociology; Spanish Language, Hispanic Literature & Culture; Special Education, and Visual Arts.

Campus Life
You can only hit the books so hard and for so long, so there are lots of other things to do at Old Westbury. The College offers more than 50 student organizations from which to choose, including the student newspaper — The Catalyst, fraternities and sororities, and service-oriented organizations. Students have access to the on-campus theatres and movie venues, restaurants and snack bars, and low-rise and high-rise living. Nine coeducational residence halls provide housing for more than 800 undergraduates. Among the variety of support services for students are a professional University Police Department, student health services, a counseling center, the academic advising center, and a career planning and placement center.

Facilities and Resources
Old Westbury offers the best of both worlds. Its sequestered 600-acre setting is perfect for finding you who you are and who you want to be, yet new facilities, resources and technologies are being added by the day. There’s Academic Village comprised of four academic buildings and nine dormitories. The Campus Center houses a bookstore, Maguire Theater, Amelie A. Wallace Art Gallery, and the Duane L. Jones Recital Hall. Also located with the Campus Center is the College Library, which offers more than 200,000 printed volumes and access to more than 700 online journals and texts. The Natural Sciences Building is home to cutting edge research conducted by members of the college’s Biological Sciences and Chemistry & Physics’ faculty.

Athletics/Sports
Old Westbury is an NCAA Division III school, fielding successful teams in men’s baseball, basketball cross-country, soccer and tennis; and women’s basketball, cross-country, softball, tennis and volleyball. The F. Ambrose Clark Physical Education & Recreation Center houses a 25-meter swimming pool; a modern gymnasium with seating for 2,000, a complete strength and conditioning facility; handball/racquetball courts, and an aerobic workout room complete with state-of-the-art physical fitness accessories. The College also features two soccer fields, eight tennis courts, a softball field and a baseball field. Runners in cross country competition train on European-styled courses that traverse Old Westbury's 604-acre wooded campus.

Financial Aid
Old Westbury dispenses more than $13.5 million in student assistance programs annually. Undergraduate students may be eligible for the Federal Pell grant, New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) grant, and the campus-based programs, which include Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG), College Work-Study and Perkins Loans. Students' and parents' eligibility for the William D. Ford Direct (Stafford) and Parent (PLUS) loans are also listed in an aid package. Students must complete the an application for Federal Student Aid. For priority consideration, this application should be filed as soon as possible. Admission Requirements
Admission to Old Westbury is competitive; most successful candidates come to it with a strong level of academic preparation. The College requires a high school average of at least 80 and an SAT I score of 1,000. In some cases, recommendations and portfolio reviews can be considered. Application review and notification begins in mid-December and continues on a rolling basis until the freshman class is filled. In addition to its traditional admissions process, Old Westbury offers the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP). Transfer applicants, as well as international students and adults seeking a return to college, are welcome.
