College Description / Campus Visit
Saint Xavier University is one of the oldest institutions of higher learning in Illinois. Founded in 1846 and chartered in 1847 by the Sisters of Mercy, Saint Xavier continues its commitment to the pursuit of academic excellence within the context of respect, caring, and justice. The members of the University community affirm the rich tradition of Catholic higher education in America–one marked by spiritual development and intellectual vigor.

As a coeducational private Catholic university, Saint Xavier offers a solid liberal arts core and outstanding professional programs. The University serves a diverse student population of more than 5,200. Saint Xavier's students come from throughout the United States and the world, but the majority comes from the Midwest region.

Saint Xavier University is located in a residential neighborhood on the city's southwest side, on 103rd Street and Central Park, between Pulaski Road and Kedzie Avenue. The campus is easily accessible by public transportation, major expressways, and through streets, including I-94, I-294, I-57, and Cicero Avenue. SXU is adjacent to the suburbs of Evergreen Park and Oak Lawn and is 15 miles from the heart of Chicago's Loop, only 8 miles from Midway Airport, and 35 miles from O'Hare International Airport.

Academic Life

The core includes courses in natural science, mathematics, social sciences, history, literature, religious studies, philosophy, writing, and speech.

For graduation, a student must earn at least 120 semester hours, including completion of the University's specified curricular components.
