College Description
Founded in 1921, Rosemont College is an independent liberal arts institution in the Catholic tradition. Rosemont's reputation for academic excellence in an intimate setting is its hallmark. The College's community of students and faculty members are dedicated to developing the intellect and abilities of every student. Rosemont welcomes persons of all beliefs. It is committed to excellence and joy in teaching and learning. The College seeks to develop open and critical minds and reasoned moral positions in all members of the community and to assist them in becoming persons capable of independent and reflective thought and action. It seeks also to prepare women and men for the world of work so that they can make a significant contribution.

Rosemont is consistently ranked among the top regional liberal arts colleges by U.S. News & World Report. It has been named to the John Templeton Foundation Honor Roll for Character-Building Colleges, a designation that recognizes colleges and universities that emphasize character building as an integral part of the college experience.

The nationally acclaimed, traditional undergraduate women's college confers the Bachelor of Arts, the Bachelor of Fine Arts, and the Bachelor of Science degrees in twenty-three majors. The College has approximately 6,300 living alumnae, many of whom have been in the vanguard of expanding career and professional opportunities for women. They can be found in high-ranking positions in science and medicine, law, business, education, the social sciences, publishing, and the arts. Building on its historic commitment to the undergraduate education of women, the College has expanded to include a School of Continuing Studies and a School of Graduate Studies, which are open to both women and men. The School of Continuing Studies offers seven undergraduate degrees and three graduate degrees, all in an accelerated format. Rosemont's School of Graduate Studies offers the Master of Education degree in mid-level education and curriculum and instruction, and the Master of Arts in English, counseling psychology, and English and publishing.

In the spirit of Cornelia Connelly, founder of the Society of the Holy Child Jesus, Rosemont is committed to preparing individuals to meet the challenges of the times and to act responsibly and effectively in an ever-changing world.

Rosemont's 56-acre campus is located in the town of Rosemont, a suburban historic community with many shops, movie theaters, restaurants, and bookstores. The city of Philadelphia is 11 miles east of Rosemont and just a 20-minute train ride from the campus. Rosemont's proximity to Philadelphia provides students with a vast array of cultural and social opportunities, such as the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Pennsylvania Ballet, and various professional sports events, including Phillies, Flyers, 76ers and Eagles games. Within the Philadelphia area there are approximately eighty other colleges and universities. Rosemont is ideally located for recreational activities; it is only a short distance from both the Pocono mountains and the New Jersey shore.

Academic Life
To earn a Rosemont degree, each candidate must complete 117 credits (120 credits for the B.F.A. and the B.S. in business). In addition to the requirements of a major concentration, all students must complete the general requirements. The general requirements, or core curriculum, focus on the fields of study closely associated with traditional liberal arts and sciences curricula: writing, literature, foreign language, philosophy, religious studies, history, mathematics, natural science, social science, and art. During their senior year, all students must successfully complete a comprehensive exam exhibiting competency in their declared major.

At the end of the freshman year, students exhibiting exceptional independence in their work and interest in serious academic pursuits are nominated by a faculty member to participate in a Special Academic Program, which substitutes for the general core curriculum requirements. Rosemont also has an Honors Society, which, in addition to its academic focus, fosters involvement in both cultural and community service activities.

Rosemont College offers a joint admissions medical program with Medical College of Pennsylvania/Hahnemann University (MCPHU); this assures a Rosemont freshman of early acceptance into its medical school. This program is highly selective, and a December 31 deadline applies.

For students interested in a French and business major, Rosemont offers specialized courses in business French to prepare students for the examination of the Chambre de Commerce et d'Industrie de Paris. The Certificat Pratique de Français Commercial et Économique is awarded to students who successfully complete this exam.

Rosemont offers programs granting certification in the following teaching areas: early childhood education/elementary education, elementary education, secondary education, art education, and special education with a concentration in hearing impaired.

First-year students participate in a comprehensive advising program called Freshman Colloquia. These colloquia are special vehicles for beginning and deepening a relationship with Rosemont. It is an improved system of advising that reaches beyond mere counseling in course selection.

Rosemont College awards the Bachelor of Arts, the Bachelor of Fine Arts, and the Bachelor of Science degrees. Majors are offered in the following fields: accounting, biochemistry, biology, business, chemistry, communications, economics, English, French, German, history, history of art, international business, mathematics, philosophy, political science, psychology, religious studies, sociology, Spanish, studio art, and women's studies. Interdisciplinary majors are offered in humanities, Italian studies, and social science. Prelaw and premedical programs and teacher certification for elementary, secondary, art, early childhood, and special education areas are available. Minors are available in most majors in addition to computer science and theater. Students may also choose to pursue a double major or create their own cross-disciplinary individualized major. Other special programs include a dual-degree program in chemical engineering and a transfer nursing program with nearby Villanova University and a cooperative program in information systems and technology with Drexel University. In addition, Rosemont offers a combined B.A./M.A. in English and publishing and a combined B.A./M.A. in counseling psychology.

Campus Life
Each and every residence hall is equipped with a security access card system. Students living in the residence halls use their I.D. cards to access their building. Laundry, kitchen, and vending facilities are available for student use in every hall. Also, each resident's room has its own sink, for convenience and privacy. Each resident's room is cable ready, computer compatible, and has call waiting and local metro phone service. In addition, you may rent a room-size rug, microwave, and/or refrigerator that will be delivered right to campus.

Activities at Rosemont College are designed to offer leadership and entertainment opportunities that will encourage students to become active and informed members of the community. With a focus on the diverse needs of the Rosemont community, college activities span academic organizations and culturally based clubs, and include athletics and campus-wide events. In addition to their own activities, many clubs offer campus-wide events and forums on a regular basis. Each weekend finds at least one campus event that is open to the Rosemont community, and additional activities are found interspersed throughout the week. Events range from band concerts to shopping excursion at the King of Prussia mall, and from skating parties to Academic Jeopardy.
The Student Government Association, Rosemont Activities Council, and Residential Housing Association are three of the organizations which oversee activities and sponsor a number of college events.

Off-Campus and StudyAbroad Programs
Through academic exchange programs that expand course offerings, students may take courses at neighboring Villanova University, Eastern College, and Cabrini College. The Art Institutes International Exchange Program, which allows studio art candidates to apply for admission into the commercial art program offered at any one of the eight Art Institute International Schools located in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Fort Lauderdale, Denver, Atlanta, Houston, Seattle, and Dallas, is also available.

Rosemont students may participate in any of a variety of study-abroad programs. These programs give students the opportunity to combine travel with academic and cultural study. Students receive full credit at Rosemont for course work successfully completed on an approved program. Rosemont, in cooperation with Villanova University, sponsors its own summer study-abroad program to Siena, Italy. This program focuses on course work in studio art, Italian Renaissance art history, and Italian language and literature.

There are many opportunities for full semester internships in various fields of study. Each candidate must be academically qualified and meet the approval of the appropriate faculty member. Fieldwork and practica, as well as summer internships, are also available.

Students may schedule weekly tutoring appointments or drop in.
