Palmer College of Chiropractic
The Big Idea of Chiropractic
In 1895, Daniel David (D.D.) Palmer of Davenport, Iowa, had a Big Idea. He believed that good health could be sustained naturally without drugs or surgery through a new approach to health care. He called it chiropractic. Since then, D.D. Palmers Big Idea has grown to become the nations second largest licensed health care profession.
The first chiropractic school was founded by D.D. Palmer in 1897, two years after he performed the first chiropractic adjustment of modern times only blocks away from the current campus of Palmer College of Chiropractic, which is known throughout the world as The Fountainhead of chiropractic education.
Palmer College of Chiropractic is accredited by both the Council on Chiropractic Education and the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and is recognized by both the International Chiropractors Association and the American Chiropractic Association.
In 1991, the Palmer Chiropractic University System was formed, joining Palmer College of Chiropractic in Iowa and Palmer College of Chiropractic West in San Jose, Calif. In 2002, Palmer College of Chiropractic Florida, a branch campus of Palmer College, opened its doors to students.
Your Future and the Future of Health Care
Chiropractors practice natural, drug-free, non-surgical health care and rely on the bodys innate ability to heal itself. Like other health practitioners, chiropractors follow a standard routine to secure the information needed to determine the best care for their patients. They take their patients medical history; conduct physical, neurological and orthopedic examinations; and may order laboratory tests and X-rays. Following this diagnostic routine, chiropractors determine a program of care, usually involving adjustments, which are performed with gentle, specific thrusts to correct misaligned vertebrae.
Chiropractic education centers on the concept of a patients health not their disease. As a doctor of chiropractic, when you determine the health status of your patients, you will be concerned with their entire ecology, which may include occupational stress, rest, exercise and nutrition.
Chiropractic Curriculum
As at every Palmer campus, the four key elements of a successful chiropractic education will be stressed: chiropractic philosophy, basic sciences, clinical skills and practice management.
From day one, youll be exposed to all aspects of patient care by learning about philosophy, science and technique right away, and expanding your knowledge of office management every day.
The program will be sequenced in tracks, with each track having sessions and each session having subsequent learning modules. You will then be assessed at the end of each learning module as well as at the end of each session.
