Multicultural Profile
When you step onto the University of New Haven (UNH) campus, the first thing you notice is diversity. Our students, who come from throughout the United States as well as more than 60 foreign countries, are from urban, suburban, and rural locales. Founded in 1920, UNH is a private, coeducational university located in West Haven, Connecticut. The main campus sits on a hillside overlooking Long Island sound and the culturally and historical city of New Haven. Within easy driving distance to New York, Boston and Cape Cod, UNH offers the advantages of a suburban atmosphere as well as the excitement of city life.

Our academic programs are as diverse as our student population. Students can choose from more than 85 undergraduate degree programs or concentrations from our five schools and colleges-Arts & Sciences, Business; Engineering & Applied Science; Hospitality and Tourism and Public Safety & Professional Studies.

UNH is proud of its 1,500 undergraduate students, of which 16% are members of a minority group. The Office of Multicultural Affairs plans and implements programs and provides academic and personal advisement. Information regarding scholarships, grants, and awards for high school and college minority students is available. The office also serves as a catalyst in building a support network between the community-at-large and the university. The International Student Services Office seeks to foster a global perspective among the students and faculty, and developing and implementing activities in support of this commitment. The office also assists students with immigration, academic, and social adjustment problems.

UNH encourages its students to become involved in the more than 40 clubs and organizations, including the Black Student Union, International Student Association, and Latin American Student Association. The university fields 13 varsity sports, all teams compete on the NCAA Division II level as well as in the ECA and NEC conferences.

UNH offers a comprehensive financial aid program that includes university resources, state, federal, and private aid programs. Approximately 70% of fulltime undergraduate students receive some form of financial aid, whether it be grants, scholarships, student loans, or part-time employment. Deadlines for financial aid is March 15.
