With a mission focused on educating the whole person, Newberry epitomizes the small-college amenities of personal attention, easy rapport between students and faculty, and a supportive environment of academic, personal, and social development. Newberry is situated in the gently rolling hills of the South Carolina Piedmont, almost centrally located between Columbia, the state's capital, and the Greenville/Spartanburg metropolitan area. A town of approximately 10,000 residents, Newberry is easily accessible via three exits on Interstate 26. Newberry College's student body is made up of about 744 men and women from twenty-four states and several countries. About 47 percent are women and 53 percent are men. Seventy-five percent of the students live in college residence halls; others live off campus or commute from home.
Academic Life
Newberry College offers over 40 academic programs leading to a bachelor of arts, bachelor of science, bachelor of music, or bachelor of music education degree. With each of these programs, students must complete a core curriculum of 43-50 semester hours, which draws coursework from the arts, humanities, natural sciences, social sciences, and other areas. A fine arts and lectures program, also part of the graduation requirements offers events such as lectures, concerts, and plays to the students. The Summerland Honors Community is offered to those students with exceptional academic backgrounds to further enhance their liberal arts experience. Newberry is on the semester calendar system, having a fall and spring semester with two summer sessions. During the year, students may elect to participate in a study abroad program at selected universities for a semester, a summer, or a year. The program is available to students in all majors, but some proficiency in the language spoken in the host country is required.

Campus Life
Students participate in a variety of College-sponsored activities, including eight music-related organizations; three campus publications; theater productions; intramural sports; ethnic, political, and religious organizations; honor, service, and leadership societies; professional fraternities; the Newberry College Student Ambassadors; and special interest groups. Through committee assignments, it assists in the formulation and implementation of College policies. The NCSGA officers are elected through campuswide elections, and the senators are elected by the constituencies they represent.
