College Description
Mercy College is a comprehensive college offering Undergraduate and Graduate degrees. Founded in 1950 by the Sisters of Mercy, Mercy became independent in 1969 and is now private, co-educational and non-sectarian.

Mercy College has 14 locations throughout Westchester County and New York City. The main campus located in Dobbs Ferry, on 60 beautiful acres along the Hudson River, enjoys the tranquil benefits of suburban life as well as proximity to New York City-just 30 minutes away!

Student body is primarily comprised of students from Westchester and the New York/ New Jersey/ Connecticut metropolitan area, while also attracting students from throughout the United States and over 100 countries.

Mercy College is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools and the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York. Programs in Paralegal Studies, Nursing, Accounting, Social Work, Veterinary Technology and Physical and Occupational Therapy have additional accreditations.

Academic Life
Mercy College offers more than 90 different Master's, Bachelor's, Associate degrees and Certificate programs.

The major undergraduate degree programs include: Accounting, Behavioral Science, Biology, Business Administration, Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Communication Disorders, Criminal Justice, English Literature, Environmental Health and Safety, Interdisciplinary Studies, Journalism, Television and Radio Production, Mathematics, Medical Technology, Music Technology, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Physical Therapy, Physical Therapy Assistant, Computer Graphics Art, Paralegal Studies, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Therapeutic Recreation and Veterinary Technology. Mercy also offers 31 graduate programs in Business, Education, Health Sciences, and Liberal Arts.

Bilingual programs in Spanish and Korean are available.

Masters of Science degrees include: Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, Banking, Human Resource Management, Education-Tri-Certification, Education Learning Technology, Nursing, Adult Practicioner, Organizational Leadership, Physician Assistant, Physical and Occupational Therapies as well as a joint B.S./ M.D. program, Internet Business Systems, Communication Disorders, English Literature, Direct Marketing, and Health Service Management.

More than 1500 Mercy students take some classes on-line. Mercy offers full degrees on-line for both graduate and undergraduate degrees. On-line undergraduate degrees are Business, Psychology, Computer Information Systems, and Direct Marketing. Graduate degrees on-line are Banking, Direct Markeitng, MBA, and Health Services Management.

A sampling of certificate programs includes Cisco Certification, Direct Marketing, Gerontology, Pet Assisted Therapy, Substance Abuse counseling, and Paralegal.

Mercy off-campus learning opportunities includes a home-study programs and Distance Learning, which offers four degrees on-line including: Psychology, Computer Science, Business and Liberal Arts.

Mercy's calendar consists of Fall and Spring 16-week semesters accompanied by two eight week terms each and a Summer semester consisting of one 12-week term and two 6-week terms. A ten week weekend program is also available at the White Plains and Dobbs Ferry campuses.

Campus Life
Recently, the College opened a 170-bed residence hall on campus, overlooking the Hudson River. Each floor has kitchen facilities and lounge area. Meal plans are available. The Residential Life Program is structured to promote students' social, cultural, personal and intellectual development. The College also assists students in securing additional accommodations by maintaining a list of rooms and apartments available in the surrounding area.

Other campus services include orientations, academic advising, career counseling, tutoring, health services, and services for students with handicapped conditions.

It is the responsibility of the Student Association (SA) to represent the voice of the student body. In conjunction with the College Council for Student Affairs, the Student Association determines policy with regard to student behavior. In addition it administers funds and approves budgets for student organization and clubs, which sponsor public events and publications throughout the year.

Facilities and Resources
The main campus occupies six modern, fully equipped, air-conditioned buildings housing classrooms and administrative offices, science laboratories a clinic for communication disorders, a graduate center, television studio, a 200-bed residence hall, computer labs, a theater and auditorium, as well as acupuncture and veterinary clinics. The main campus library houses more than 215,000 books, films and videos, and 1,332 periodicals. Other facilities include a gymnasium, 3 outdoor swimming pools, basketball, tennis and handball courts, a running track, two baseball diamonds and a soccer field.

Mercy's other locations offer a range of facilities and services to meet the needs of each student population including a recording studio at the White Plains campus and day care facilities at the Bronx campus. All locations have meal service and library facilities.

Off-campus learning opportunities include joint ventures with private businesses, industries, and research facilities such as The Westchester Consortium of Colleges, The Westchester Conservatory of Music, The Institute of Continuing Biomedical Education, The NY Medical College Graduate School and The Karol Marchinkowski University of Medical Sciences in Poznan, Poland.

Athletics/Sports
In addition to having facilities available for recreational purposes, the College sponsors NCAA Division III teams for men and women in baseball, basketball, golf, soccer, softball, tennis and volleyball. In recent years, Mercy teams have won conference and regional championships in soccer, golf and women's softball.

The Mercy College athletic teams are members of the following: Eastern Collegiate Athletic Association (ECAC) Division II, Metropolitan Collegiate Tennis Conference, National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II, Intercollegiate Soccer Association of America (ISAA), New York Collegiate Athletic Conference (NYCAC) and Collegiate Track Conference.

Financial Aid
Financial assistance is available in the form of scholarships, grants, loans and employment for eligible matriculated students. All students requesting financial assistance are requested to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by July 1 for the Fall semester and by November 1 for the Spring semester. Mercy college awards $310,000 in scholarships and $1.5 million in grants to students per year.

Admission Requirements
Mercy College provides access to higher education for all applicants who demonstrate motivation, desire and the potential to benefit from programs of study in the liberal arts and studies, health sciences and professional studies. The college welcomes applications from high school seniors and transfer students as well as adult students returning to study.

Graduation from secondary school required; GED accepted. 15 units of the following program of study recommended: English 4, Mathematics 3, Science 2, Foreign Language 2, Social Studies 4.

SAT recommended but not required. Admissions interview and campus visit required of some, recommended of all. Off-campus interview may be arranged. Once accepted, all students must complete a placement examination.
