Athletics and recreation at Mercy College are viewed as important aspects of extra-curricular life for spectator and participant alike. The college's athletic program serves to spotlight the rich talent of the student body, while the intramural and recreation facilities provide opportunities for all students to develop skills for lifelong enjoyment.
Mercy College offers intercollegiate competition in men's soccer, basketball, baseball, golf, tennis, and cross-country. Womens sports include volleyball, cross-country, basketball, softball, and womens soccer, which has been added to the program for the 2000 season. Mercy has also had female participants on both the golf and tennis teams.
All full-time students (at least 12 credits) in good academic standing are eligible to try out for college teams. Baseball, softball and soccer are played on the beautiful field overlooking the Hudson River at the Dobbs Ferry Campus. Tennis matches are held at Westchester Community College. The nearby Ardsley Country Club hosts golf games. Cross-country meets are held at the Van Cortland Park in the Bronx. Most basketball games are played at Westchester Community College and Sacred Heart High School in Yonkers.
Freshmen who qualify under NCAA eligibility rules are immediately eligible for varsity competition, and transfer students are welcomed under provisions of the regulations of the NCAA.
