Marycrest International University
Marycrest International University students enjoy global diversity on a small, scenic campus overlooking the Mississippi River.

College Description
The mission of Marycrest International University is to develop citizens for the world through education without prejudice. Nestled on bluffs overlooking the Mississippi River, Marycrest is located in Davenport, Iowa, one of the four clustered cities on the Iowa-Illinois border known as the Quad Cities. A small, private, coeducational, liberal arts university, Marycrest International entered into an affiliation with Teikyo University in Tokyo, Japan in 1990, a partnership that has created exciting opportunities for students to travel and study abroad at campus sites in Germany, the Netherlands and Japan. Similar opportunities are available in association with other colleges and universities in China, France, Spain, England, Austria, Mexico and Russia. Marycrest provides programs, facilities and resources that foster the development of knowledge, abilities and values appropriate to world citizens.

Academic Life
Marycrest International University has six academic departments offering a total of 16 academic majors leading to a baccalaureate degree. These six departments are Business, Education, Graphic Communication and Computer Science, Humanities and Sciences, Nursing, and Social and Behavioral Science. Graduate programs are offered in computer science and education, and certificate programs are offered in multimedia and network management. Programs in education, nursing and social work have strong professional development components that have resulted in consistently high placement rates for Marycrest graduates. Programs in business and computer science provide knowledge and training that are reflective of current industry standards. The computer graphics/multimedia major has an interdisciplinary curriculum that is project-based and allows students to experience the latest technology in graphic communication and web design.

Campus Life
The Marycrest community consists of students, faculty, staff and administrators who work together and reflect through their activities the belief that there is strength and knowledge through diversity. International study is strongly encouraged, and campus-based programming of a global nature is emphasized so students who are not able to study abroad still will have globally focused experiences on the Davenport campus. Students have a variety of academic clubs and activities to participate in that lead to a well-rounded college experience. Extracurricular activities include The Crest, the University’s national award-winning newspaper. The Marycrest Activities Center provides equipment and space for a variety of recreational and fitness activities. Also available are activities in campus ministry, community service and leadership development. In 1997, Marycrest inaugurated a Spirituality Center on campus that provides an opportunity for the Marycrest community and our neighbors to explore major world faith traditions. Throughout the year, the Student Services department sponsors Taste of Culture nights in the campus dining hall, at which time dishes from throughout the world are served to the campus community. A strong Alumni Association enhances the Marycrest community. Recent graduates frequently return to participate in campus activities. Many of our alumni have found that people who respect diversity and are skilled in managing diversity are more successful in their personal and professional lives and are highly valued by employers.

Facilities and Resources
In addition to having access to the various international study sites at our sister universities in Europe and Japan, in 1997 Marycrest entered into a consortium with two other U.S.-based universities to offer our students exciting opportunities in distance learning through the Internet and teleconferencing capabilities. At Marycrest, every student has access to e-mail and the Internet through the academic computer labs in classroom buildings, the library and the residence halls, where every room is wired for individual computer hookups. The Computer Graphic/Multimedia labs offer the latest technology for students interested in graphic arts, 2D and 3D animation, and web publishing. The Cone Library carries 150,500 books. Walsh Hall houses the Marycrest learning Center, where students can receive free tutoring from professional staff as well as peer tutors. Both classroom buildings are handicap accessible. The Nursing Building has an auditorium, photography labs, and nursing labs. Other campus facilities include a bookstore, post office and a daycare center as a service to students with young children.

Athletics/Sports
Marycrest fields teams in men and women’s soccer, basketball, volleyball, and women’s softball. The University soccer teams play on a soccer field located just two blocks from the campus. A member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, Marycrest International University is affiliated with the Midwest Classic Conference, comprising colleges and universities located in eastern and central Iowa and southern Wisconsin. Over the past ten years, various Marycrest teams have enjoyed success in the form of winning conference titles and qualifying for district playoffs. In 2000, the men’s volleyball team placed third in the nation while playing a schedule that included Division I schools. Unofficial sports events are held as well, such as Special Olympics integrated volleyball, benefit basketball tournaments and intramurals.

Financial Aid
Marycrest International University extends many opportunities for students to receive as much financial aid as possible through institutional grants and scholarships and participation in federal and state financial aid programs. Marycrest participates in all federal and state programs and offers a variety of institutional grants and scholarships based upon merit, talent and need. To receive financial assistance, students must complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Once the University determines a student’s need, an award letter will be mailed listing all financial aid resources for which the student is eligible. Only students who have been accepted to the University may receive a financial aid award.
