Maharishi University of Management
Fairfield, Iowa 52557

Maharishi University
A dignified dress code and a structured daily routine integrating twice-daily practice of the Transcendental Meditation program into a rigorous, traditional academic schedule, provides students with complete, practical knowledge and skills needed for happiness and success in personal and professional lives.

College Description
Since its founding in 1971 by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the goal of Maharishi University of Management (Maharishi International University 1971-95) has been to make education complete so that every student may enjoy and improve academic excellence, consciousness and creativity, and a high quality of life in accord with Natural Law. The University achieves its goal by offering new disciplines alongside traditional studies and by incorporating twice-daily practice of the Transcendental Meditation or TM-Sidhi (including Yogic Flying) programs into its rigorous, yet achievable, academic schedule. This Consciousness-BasedSM (enlightenment based) approach is unique in adding to traditional education scientifically validated programs for students to develop their full potential for inner and outer success. Significant scientific research demonstrates students make rapid progress in academic achievement and also in developing their creativity, intelligence, and good health.

As an accredited, private University, we offer bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programs in a broad range of disciplines. The University developed its reputation for academic excellence through outstanding faculty committed to its unique and innovative education. Faculty members include internationally recognized scholars and researchers who teach both undergraduate and graduate programs and conduct groundbreaking research in affiliated institutes.

Academic Features
Students study one subject at a time through a four-week block system in a 44-week academic year over two semesters. This, along with the personal attention allowed by an excellent student to faculty ratio, allows students to focus deeply on each subject and retain more knowledge without the conflicting demands of other classes. First-year undergraduate students explore up to 20 disciplines in light of the interdisciplinary principles of the Science of Creative Intelligence, a new discipline connecting each branch of knowledge to the whole tree of knowledge. Through these Natural Law Seminars students thoroughly prepare to choose their major fields of study.

Our newest programs offer leading-edge knowledge in environmental studies, sustainable agriculture (organic farming), digital media, 3-D animation, website design, film and video arts, and theater. Our College of Maharishi Vedic MedicineSM offers programs based on complete knowledge of Natural Law-Veda. A holistic, natural, preventive approach to health care.

With the University's unique block system, study-abroad programs can be arranged more easily. Our Rotating University program offers courses in some of the world's most beautiful settings-such as the Swiss Alps, India, and Florence, Italy.

Programs of Study:

The University offers a comprehensive range of bachelor's degree programs: B.A. in Fine Arts or B.F.A. with emphases available in visual arts, 3-D animation, website design, digital media, intermedia, music, film and video, or theater arts; B.A. or B.S. in biochemistry, chemistry, computer science, and psychology; B.S. in biology (which qualifies as pre-medicine and including emphases in environmental studies, and sustainable agriculture), mathematics, and physics; and B.A. in education, electronics, literature (emphasis available in writing), Maharishi Vedic Medicine, management, and the Science of Creative Intelligence. Undergraduate minors include government, exercise and sport sciences, French, Spanish, and most bachelor's degree areas. Associate of Arts degree programs are also available in most areas.

There is a variety student clubs and activities-international student groups; an active student environmental organization; sports, language, chess, and dance clubs; student balls and variety shows; multicultural cabarets; and many others including our unique Yogic Flying Club whose members demonstrate Yogic Flying-an advanced technology of consciousness-in many locations around the U.S. Activities also include public interest and recreational events including movies, dances, visiting speakers, and Student Government-sponsored conferences.

Facilities and Resources
The University's 262-acre campus includes 1.2 million square feet of smoke-free, academic, research, residential, administrative, and recreational facilities. Most of the University's undergraduate students live on campus in single rooms. Our main dining hall offers a delicious vegetarian cuisine, incorporating organically grown and natural foods wherever possible.

Facilities include research and teaching laboratories; a library offering the latest computer technology for research and other student use; a campus radio station; student union building; movie and drama theaters; recreational and sports facilities, a non-denominational chapel, and an outstanding elementary and secondary school. The redevelopment of campus began in 1998 with the construction of the first building designed according to the principles of Natural Law (Maharishi Sthapatya VedaSM design)-so that building design actually promotes clearer thinking, better health, and good fortune.

The University is equipped with a campus computing network using mainly fiber optic cable to connect academic buildings. There are five computer laboratories available to students, as well as a bank of library computers. Our digital media laboratory incorporates high-performance computers with sophisticated capabilities for non-linear digital video editing, music synthesis and recording, and versatile digital media production.

The University's recreation center provides year-round facilities for tennis, track and field, basketball, volleyball, weight training, and gymnastics. Outdoor facilities include a swimming pool and soccer fields. Other sports available include golf, soccer, skiing, and adventure sports such as white-water rafting, kayaking, rock climbing, and mountain biking. The University's golf team has been successful in intercollegiate competition.

Students frequent a wide variety of shops and restaurants in the local community, including a dozen restaurants serving international cuisine, and take advantage of diverse cultural and recreational activities. Fairfield offers all the benefits of "middle America" alongside an inspiring, cosmopolitan atmosphere unusual in a small, midwest town. The town also offers a golf course, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, horseback riding and many other recreational opportunities at parks located in town and the surrounding area.
