Lehigh University is committed to providing our students with a challenging academic atmosphere along with a strong support system. With three interactive colleges: Arts and Sciences, Business and Economics, and Engineering and Applied Sciences, Lehigh has a long-standing record of producing some of the nation's top performers in their respective fields, and is a place where education, learning and cultural development are paramount. With 99 percent of our faculty holding the highest degree in their fields, our students fully enjoy the personal attention our 11:1 student/faculty ratio allows them. At Lehigh you'll find many hands-on experiences in the classroom. Professors often involve students in their own research. Here at Lehigh, we realize the importance of recruiting and retaining African-American, Hispanic/Latino, and Asian American students, with the intent of preparing them to be future leaders. Challenge for Success is a six-week summer program which seeks to ready our African-American and Hispanic/Latino incoming freshmen for the Lehigh experience. The program follows through with intensive, year-long supplemental academic support services, such as tutoring, study skills workshops and peer counseling. Lehigh also offers special programs in English as a second language (ESL), for students whose English language skills need supplementation. Organizations such as the Black Students Union, The East Asian Society and the South American and Latino Student Alliance (SALSA) promote unity, pride and cultural awareness within the University and community through social and educational events. The Association of Minority Business Students, National Society of Black Engineers, The Women's support group, Society of Today's Ebony Men, Society of Hispanic Engineers, Gospel Choir, Mask, Kappa Alpha Psi, Inc., and Omega Psi Phi, Inc. are other organizations which serve to enhance the campus life of our students. |
