College Description
Iowa Wesleyan College is located in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, a thriving community of 9,000 and home to "Old Threshers," a Labor Day weekend festival that attracts over 130,000 visitors each year. It is located in the southeastern portion of the state approximately 70 miles south of Cedar Rapids and 48 miles from Iowa City, Iowa. A private, four year, liberal arts college affiliated with the United Methodist Church, Iowa Wesleyan was founded in 1842. Situated on a 60-acre campus just two blocks from the downtown shopping area, the college offers a tree-lined campus with a mixture of old and new facilities. Iowa Wesleyan attracts students from 22 states and 11 foreign countries. The college serves as the home to the Southeast Iowa Symphony Orchestra and other numerous cultural events each year. Iowa Wesleyan is committed to providing an innovative educational experience through field experiences or internships in all programs of study, a community service project and a Life Skills Curriculum that includes communication, reasoning and problem-solving, valuing and social effectiveness.

Academic Life
Iowa Wesleyan offers 23 major programs of study leading to bachelor of arts or bachelor of science degree in the areas of business administration, education, art and music, human studies, communications and English, nursing, environmental health and the sciences. Iowa Wesleyan offers a 4-1-4 academic calendar with an interim January term for all undergraduates. Real World Learning is a unique and distinctive educational program shaped by a balance of academic learning and application of that learning through a variety of experiences. These include a required field experience or internship for all students in every major, a service learning experience that provides outstanding opportunities for students to gain leadership skills, enhance their growth potential and demonstrate their desire to be responsible and responsive members of their chosen communities. The Division of Science offers outstanding preparation for professions in allied health fields: physical therapy, medicine, veterinary medicine, pharmacy, dentistry and optometry.

Campus Life
The John Wesley Holland Student Union and the residence halls are the main activity centers of the campus. The Student Center provides general recreational facilities and meeting rooms for educational, social and recreational events. The campus dining center, snack bar, social hall, "The Joint," a student dance club, the chaplain's office and Student Activities Office serve both the campus and Mt. Pleasant communities. All students have access to e-mail, the Internet and word processing through the residence halls, Chadwick Library and science center. Two residence halls serve up to 455 students in traditional-style housing. Students can choose from among 38 clubs and organizations on campus, including sororities and fraternities, religious fellowships, music associations and numerous other groups.

Facilities and Resources
The J. Raymond Chadwick Library houses more than 125,000 volumes plus the archives of the institution and of district United Methodism. A microcomputer lab, conference rooms and study, reading and listening stations are available, as are many computerized reference resources. Internet access is available to students in the library, academic building and residence halls. ð Many of the classrooms on campus are located in Adam Trieschmann Hall of Science. A microcomputer lab that features industry-standard software assists students with their projects. A small auditorium on the second floor of this building is used to receive visitors for conferences, to hold a variety of community productions, and to serve students as an area for lectures and demonstrations. Old Main, noted for its gold dome, provides classroom space, practice rooms, and faculty offices for the music program. The building is known internationally as the birthplace of the P.E.O. Sisterhood and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Pioneer Hall is the oldest existing college classroom building in use west of the Mississippi River. It currently houses the staff and classrooms of the Division of Language and Literature. Century-old Hershey Hall continues to innovate in its design and use. Today, it houses some of the most highly advanced technology available. A statewide educational network, a state-of-the-art television production studio, the art department and RSI offices are located in Hershey Hall.

Athletics/Sports
Iowa Wesleyan College offers 14 varsity sports-seven men's and seven women's. Men's sports include the following: baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer and track. Women's sports include the following: basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, track and volleyball. Iowa Wesleyan also offers the following coed intramural sports: bowling, flag football, indoor soccer, 16-inch softball and volleyball. ð Iowa Wesleyan College is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). All varsity sports, except football, are members of the Midwest Classic Conference. Football is a member of the Mid-States Football Association, NAIA. Men's and women's basketball are also Division II, NAIA. ð Because Iowa Wesleyan is affiliated with the NAIA, the college's varsity athletic programs are eligible to award performance-based athletic scholarships to athletes. These athletic scholarships are based on the student's ability and the pertinent coach's recommendation.

Financial Aid
The Financial Aid Office assists all students in the financial aid process. Students are required to file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (or Renewal Application) by April 1 of each year. New students eligible for a top academic award, music scholarship or art scholarship will need to contact the Admissions Office for additional criteria and deadlines. Most financial aid packages consist of scholarships, grants, athletic awards, campus work and loans. Approximately 95% of full-time students receive some type of financial assistance. Notification of financial aid awards are made on a rolling basis.

Admission Requirements
Iowa Wesleyan College seeks students who have a solid background in a recommended college preparatory curriculum and who are actively involved in school and community activities. ð The Iowa Wesleyan application procedure requires students to submit an application, the $15 nonrefundable application fee, official high school transcripts and a standardized test score. While Iowa Wesleyan does not have an application deadline, students are encouraged to have completed the application by April 1. ð Several factors are considered when admitting students, the first being the student's high school curriculum. Iowa Wesleyan recommends that prospective students take four units of English, two units of mathematics, two units of science (one of these being a lab), two units of social studies, three units of history, as well as three additional electives from the above academic options. ð Other factors that are considered in the admission of students include high school grades, class rank and a standardized test score. The specific acceptance criteria for these factors include a cumulative high school grade point average of 2.0 or higher (on a 4.0 scale), a class rank in the top 60% and a score of 19 on the ACT or 900 on the SAT (while Iowa Wesleyan accepts both the ACT and the SAT, the ACT is the preferred standardized test option). An admissions interview, while not required for acceptance, is encouraged, as it enables the student to visit the Iowa Wesleyan campus. Students who meet the above academic criteria are notified of acceptance on a rolling basis.
