The Campus of Immaculata University

College Description
Immaculata, a comprehensive Catholic liberal arts college for men and women of all faiths, offers a high-quality education firmly grounded in values and tradition. Immaculata graduates are known for their skills and knowledge but also for their desire to serve. The College was founded in 1920 and has since grown to enroll 3,400 students in bachelor's, master's, doctoral degree programs, and accelerated degree completion programs.
Approximately 400 traditional-age women attend the day division, with 85 percent of them living in campus housing. The evening division includes both graduate and undergraduate programs that are open to both men and women, most of whom commute. Traditional-age students represent eighteen states and fifteen countries, giving the campus both ethnic and geographic diversity. Eight percent of the traditional-age students are members of minority groups. Resident students live in four dormitory buildings containing both double and single rooms. Both resident and nonresident students participate in more than thirty student clubs and organizations that represent interests in athletics, student government, academic disciplines, community action, music, dance, theater, and student publications.

Academic Life
Immaculata offers the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Science, Associate of Arts, and Associate of Science degrees as well as certification in education for nursery school through grade 12. Undergraduate major fields of study include accounting, biology, biology/chemistry, biology/psychology, business administration, chemistry, communications, dietetics, economics, education certification, English, environmental science, exercise science, family consumer sciences/home economics education, fashion marketing, foods in business, French, German, history, history–international studies, history–politics, information technology, international business/foreign language, international studies, mathematics, mathematics/computer science, mathematics/physics, music, music therapy, politics, prelaw, premedicine, psychology, sociology, sociology/social work, Spanish, Spanish/psychology, Spanish/social work, and theology. Most of the majors at Immaculata can be combined with certification in early childhood, elementary, secondary, or special education.

Two factors are emphasized in the educational program at Immaculata: a comprehensive liberal arts background and a major field of concentration that prepares students to begin a career or to attend graduate school. Degrees in all majors require 126 credits. This number includes 54 credits in a liberal arts core, which is required of all students. The honors program, an option for gifted students, offers an array of courses designed to give those who participate a special involvement in the learning process.
The Mary Bruder Center houses the offices for personal, career, and graduate study counseling and for educational and career testing. Workshops and seminars in resume writing, interviewing, career options, internship opportunities, and graduate fellowships are offered at regular intervals.

The College operates on a four-day week class schedule, with Wednesday as an open day, allowing opportunities for educational observations and junior-senior internships. The academic schedule is traditional—spring and fall semesters with two summer sessions.

Graduate degrees offered include the Master of Arts in cultural and linguistic diversity, counseling psychology, educational leadership and administration, music therapy, nutrition education, and organization leadership. Doctoral degrees are offered in clinical psychology, school psychology, and educational administration. ACCEL degree completion programs are offered in nursing, organization dynamics, and human performance management; this program also offers an Associate of Science degree in business administration.

Campus Life
Immaculata's 400-acre campus is located in historic Chester County, 20 miles west of Philadelphia and 10 miles south of Valley Forge. The area is primarily suburban, with numerous colleges and universities offering a wide range of cultural and social activities. The many places of interest in Philadelphia and Lancaster are easily reached by car or train. Southern New Jersey shore resorts and New York City are within 2 hours by car, with Pocono Mountain ski resorts and Washington, D.C., only 2 and a half hours away by car or train. The College provides numerous opportunities for internships in the business, educational, and scientific communities throughout the area.

Immaculata College offers unique traditions as a part of the overall collegiate experience. The College celebrates Freshman Investiture, the academic capping of the newest members of the College community; the Sophomore Pinning Ceremony; the Junior Ring Ceremony; and the Senior Hooding Ceremony. Carol Night, one of Immaculata's best-loved traditions, involves students, faculty members, and alumnae singing around the Christmas tree in the Rotunda of Villa Maria Hall.

The main building, Villa Maria Hall, is of neo-Renaissance architecture in gray stone with a red tile roof. The other thirteen major campus buildings are likewise of gray stone with red tile roofs, unifying the aesthetic appearance of the campus.

Facilities and Resources
The Gabriele Library, dedicated in 1993, houses 130,000 volumes and offers 714 periodical subscriptions and 3,609 units of microfiche. In addition to the computer center, students have access to networked computers in the library, an interactive language lab with a video screen, and a multifacet science lab with computer-simulated experiments; they also have Internet/Intranet access from their dorm rooms. Well-equipped laboratories, art studios, media centers, and an 1,150-seat theater give students more than adequate facilities with which to pursue their interests.

Four state-of-the-art computer labs were recently added: the Campus Learning and Language Laboratory, the Sister Maria Socorro Studio Laboratory for Mathematics and Science, a new Biology Laboratory, and the Loyola Executive Technology Center. The fiber-optic backbone of the campus was also completed, connecting all administrative, academic, and residential buildings.

Sports/Recreation / Varsity Athletics
Intercollegiate sports include basketball, cross-country, field hockey, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis, and volleyball. Athletic fields, gymnasiums, a weight room, and an Olympic-size swimming pool are available for student use and provide numerous opportunities for physical activities and wellness programs. The Student Association of Immaculata College provides the unity, enthusiasm, and leadership that are representative of the students who choose the College.

Financial Aid
Financial aid is available in the form of scholarships, grants, loans, and part-time campus employment through the resources of Immaculata, federal and state governments, and private endowments. Presidential and Immaculata scholarships are awarded for academic excellence. Approximately 90 percent of the students receive some form of aid, and all students who demonstrate need are offered financial aid packages. Beginning March 1, the College sends financial aid packages to accepted students as their files are completed. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) reporting code is 003276.

Admission Requirements
In order to be considered for admission to the Women's College at Immaculata, students must submit an official secondary school transcript indicating course selection for the senior year. They also must include their class standing, submit SAT I or ACT scores, and send at least one letter of recommendation. The reporting code for the SAT I is 2320, and the reporting code for the ACT is 3596. Writing samples and an admission interview, while not required, can enhance a candidate's application. The Admission Committee requires a minimum secondary school GPA of 2.5 in 16 or more course units as follows: 4 units of English, 2 units of social science, 2 units of mathematics, 2 units of science (1 lab), and 2 consecutive years of the same foreign language. Most candidates exceed this curriculum. The application fee can be waived for students with high financial need.
