|
The San Francisco Bay area is the countrys sixth largest metropolitan center, offering students an unparalleled combination of educational opportunities and spectacular physical beauty.
The University of San Francisco is located on a fifty-four acre campus just minutes from downtown and one block from the 1,000 acre Golden Gate Park. Because of the diversity and geographic compactness of San Francisco, students find research facilities, opportunities for community involvement and internship experiences that few cities can match.
Golden Gate Universitys San Francisco campus is situated in the downtown business district close to rail and bus terminals. The Bay Area offers students a wide variety of intellectual, cultural and recreational activities.
The San Francisco Art Institute is located on the bayward slope of San Franciscos Russian Hill, within easy walking distance of historic North Beach and Chinatown. Extensive systems of public transportation link the Institute to the rest of the city and nearby communities.
The San Francisco Bay region is home to an exciting art scene that includes museums, galleries, and alternative spaces for performance and other work. The area also offers a wealth of cultural and educational resources-opera, dance, legitimate and experimental theater, symphony orchestras and new music, cinema and libraries. Favored by a climate that is mild year-round, San Francisco is among the worlds most livable cities. Physically beautiful, with its hills, bay views, bridges, eclectic architecture, and fine light, the city is home to some 700,000 people representing at least thirty distinct ethnic groups and a wide variety of lifestyles and human concerns.
New College has two campuses located in San Francisco, one of the most diverse and progressive cities in the nation. San Francisco offers a mass transit system and a range of inexpensive cultural, political, and social activities. The Fell Street campus is located downtown in the Civic Center area. It is a short walk from the main branch of the public library, City Hall, museums, and theaters. The Valencia Street campus, which includes the undergraduate Humanities Building, is located in the vibrant Mission District, where students can find numerous bookstores, cafes and shops.
The California College of Arts and Crafts San Francisco Campus occupies half a city block in the heart of the design district. The Oakland campus is in a predominantly residential area. Mills College, also in Oakland, is the only womens college among the many excellent educational institutions in the Bay Area.
The University of California, Berkeleys 1,200-acre campus is a park-like oasis in an urban setting. It overlooks San Francisco Bay and stretches from downtown Berkeley through wooded hills. The city of Berkeley offers the lively background of one of Americas more culturally diverse and politically adventurous small cities. The surrounding San Francisco Bay Area provides an abundance of recreational, professional sports, and world-class cultural events.
Nestled in the rolling hills of the Moraga Valley, 20 miles east of San Francisco, the Saint Marys campus has the dual benefits of a pastoral setting and proximity to a major metropolitan center. San Francisco and its rich educational and social offerings are a half hour away by car or easily accessible by public transportation.
Colleges, universities and career schools are abundant in every direction. The Dominican University of San Rafael is situated in the hills of Marin County seventeen miles north of San Francisco.
College of Notre Dames campus covers 80 acres of forested hillside in the peaceful community of Belmont, California-only 25 miles south of San Francisco, at the northern edge of Silicon Valley. The San Francisco Bay Area is home to one of the worlds most dynamic cities and the technological heart of the nation as well as some of the premier centers of cultural, recreational, and athletic attractions in the country. Students often plan short trips to the beach in Santa Cruz, to the Napa Valley wine country, and to the Sierra Nevada mountains for skiing.
Santa Clara University and San Jose State are also located in this area of dynamic technological growth. Stanford University is adjacent to the suburban communities of Palo Alto and Menlo Park, just thirty miles south of the Golden Gate Bridge.
