The Buffalo Educational Experience

The Buffalo metropolitan area offers students a wide variety of educational opportunities, along with cultural, sports and entertainment events. Buffalo is New York State's second largest city, with an area population of about onemillion people. "The City of Good Neighbors" is a center for business and regional government, a focal point for the visual and performing arts. Located 90 miles from Toronto and 20 minutes from Niagara Falls making Buffalo a gateway to recreational areas in western New York and Ontario Canada. Holiday Valley, a skier's paradise, is an hour's drive away.

The Canisius College campus is located in a residential neighborhood in the north-central area and the Metro Rail rapid transit system connects the College with some of the most exciting venuses including HSBC Arena, home of the National Hockey League's Buffalo Sabres and the Canisius Golden Griffins basketball games. The Buffalo Zoo and Delaware Park, both with a lake and golf course, are adjacent to the 36-acre campus.

D'Youville College is situated on the west side of town and is within minutes to numerous local attractions including two museums, several theatres, the Kleinhans Music Hall and the Albright-Knox Art Gallery. College students in the Buffalo area number more than 60,000. The city is served by the New York State Thruway, Amtrak, Greyhound and a number of major airlines.

Niagara University, on Monteagle Ridge overlooking the gorge of the Niagara Riverwhich connects the two Great Lakes of Erie and Ontario. The campus is just a few miles from the world-famous Niagara Falls. The suburban 160-acre campus combines the old and new; both ivy- covered buildings and modern architectural structures are among its twenty-seven buildings. The University is easily accessible from every major city in the eastern and midwestern United States via the New York State Thruway, Buffalo International Airport, and rail and bus service.

Buffalo State is the largest college within the State University of New York (SUNY) System and offers academically excellent programs at the bachelor's, master's, and certificate of advanced study levels. Of a total enrollment of 11,735 students, 9,581 are undergraduates. Most come from New York State; almost 17 percent are students from historically underrepresented groups. A variety of living/learning options are provided in on-campus housing, including the newly renovated Moore complex, which offers apartment-style housing for students with children. Off-campus housing opportunities are readily available in the surrounding residential neighborhoods. The Sports Arena, which houses Buffalo's only college ice hockey rink, is home court to the NCAA Division III Bengals basketball teams. The College is situated in the Elmwood Museum District adjacent to the 365-acre Delaware Park, which features the world-famous Albright-Knox Art Gallery, the Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society, Hoyt Lake, and the Buffalo Zoo. The neighborhood includes many trendy restaurants and cafés. This location affords Buffalo State students and faculty members special advantages-ample work/study opportunities, an open invitation to cultural events, and plenty of social/recreational activities--all conveniently accessible by public transportation.

Daemen is located on a 39-acre campus in Amherst, New York, a northern suburb of Buffalo. The campus is easily accessible by the major rail, plane, and motor routes that serve the city of Buffalo. The combination of a beautiful and safe campus and proximity to a bustling city is a definite asset. The area has a rich variety of participatory and spectator sports that range from skiing and swimming to football.
