DePaul University
Chicago, Illinois

DePaul is located in Chicago, a world class center for
business, government and culture.

College Description
Founded by the Vincentian Order of Priests in 1898, DePaul is the second-largest Catholic university in the nation and has a diverse student body enrolled on five campuses. DePaul's location in Chicago - a world class center for business, finance, government, law and culture - and its partnership with the city provide students with exceptional career-related job experiences, internships, mentorships, services and cultural opportunities. About 10,500 of DePaul's 17,294 are undergraduates. In a typical year, more than 1,200 first year students, about 35% of whom are outside the greater Chicago area, enroll in one of DePaul’s eight undergraduate colleges and schools. Exhibiting the widest variety of backgrounds, ethnicities and cultures, DePaul students share a willingness to work hard in order to achieve their educational and career goals. The University is deeply involved in the life of Chicago's communities, providing community service through 35 centers and institutes like the Legal Clinic and the Monsignor Egan Urban center, more than 15 student organizations dedicated to community service and a even service learning component to the undergraduate curriculum.

Academic Life
Vincentian personalism pervades the academic life. Through seven undergraduate colleges and schools, DePaul offers more than 100 programs of study with more than 1,000 courses. But take a look in one of our classes and you'll see that Vincentian personalism - the average class size is only 25 students and half of all undergraduate classes have 20 or fewer students in them. Almost all classes at DePaul are taught by faculty. Each of DePaul's colleges and schools is recognized nationwide - the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences for its outstanding faculty, plus the depth and breadth of its academic programs. The School of Computer Science, Telecommunications and Information Systems is one of the largest and most comprehensive in the country. The School of Education is a recognized leader in urban education reform. DePaul's College of Commerce and School of Accountancy are among only a handful of schools in the nation accredited by the prestigious American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business. And the School of Music and Theatre School are both nationally known for their premier conservatory programs. DePaul operates on the quarter system.

Campus Life
The Lincoln Park campus of DePaul is in Chicago's premier residential neighborhood - a community of restored row houses, theaters, shops and bookstores, a short walk from lakefront beaches and parks. The campus is set amid tree-lined streets - an academic oasis with eight residence halls and an active campus that call to mind small college life. Ten minutes away by elevated train, the Loop campus sits in the heart of one of the most active financial, business and cultural districts in the world. The DePaul Center, magnificent new home to DePaul's College of Commerce, is the cornerstone of the four building campus and just blocks away from the university's Merle Reskin Theatre, Orchestra Hall, Chicago's famed Art Institute and lakefront parks. There are 120 student organizations, including national fraternities and sororities, honor societies, community service organizations, political groups from left to right, ethnic, religious organizations and more.

Facilities and Resources
The DePaul Center, a $70 million teaching, learning, research and student services complex, opened in 1993 and is already recognized as the cornerstone of the Loop campus. It is outfitted with state of the art, technology enhanced classrooms. The DePaul Center Library at the Loop campus and the Lincoln Park Library contain 684,064 volumes, 16,979 periodical subscriptions and extensive microcard and microfilm collections. The facilities and equipment of the Academic Computing Services include two VAX-11/780 central processors (the nations largest DEC system). These systems along with three others provide for student input through 800 campus terminals. Student computer facilities, including more than 850 microcomputers, are located on all DePaul campuses. Among the other academic facilities are the 1,400 seat Reskin Theater for stage productions by the Theatre School and Concert Hall with a seating capacity of 500.

Athletics/Sports

DePaul is a member of the NCAA, National College Athletic Association and competes in Division 1 for all intercollegiate sports. Men have teams in basketball, cross country, track, golf, soccer, tennis and riflery and women's teams in basketball, cross country, track, softball, tennis, riflery, volleyball and soccer. Intramural opportunities include badminton, baseball, basketball, football, ice hockey, racquetball, downhill skiing, softball, swimming and diving, table tennis, volleyball and weightlifting. The men's basketball team has been the preeminent collegiate team in Chicago for many years. They play in the 16,000 seat Rosemont Horizon arena in northwest Chicago to accommodate their strong following.

Financial Aid
DePaul has planned its financial aid program to assist as many students as possible. Merit scholarships for freshmen and transfer students, with values ranging from $6000 to full tuition for four years (approximately $50,000) are based on academic and extracurricular accomplishments. Institutional competitive scholarships are based on equal consideration of class rank, grade point average, and SAT I or ACT scores, without regard for need. Out of state and Illinois applicants are treated equally. All other financial aid programs except athletic, music or theatre talent awards are based primarily on need. Students who wish to apply for need based aid must complete the Free Application For Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the DePaul application for admission. Applications and information may be obtained by contacting the Office of Student Aid. Application and notification of decisions are on a rolling basis. Financial aid programs are available to transfer students on the same basis as they are for continuing upper class students. Students are encouraged to apply before April 1 to receive maximum consideration.

Admission Requirements
A candidate for freshman admission to DePaul University should be a graduate of an approved secondary school and should have taken a minimum of 16 academic units. Applicants should rank in the upper half of their class and present strong ACT or SAT I scores. The School of Music and The Theatre School require auditions an interviews for admission. Early Action, advanced placement, a co-op high school-college program and deferred entrance are available. Transfer students are welcome. To be considered, transfers must be in good academic standing at the last college attended and must have earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 (C) in transferable courses at all colleges attended.
