Daemen College
4380 Main Street
Amherst, New York 14226

The Daemen campus is located in Amherst, a suburb of Buffalo.
College Description
At Daemen College, degree and student service programs are distinctly designed for the career-minded student. With a student body of 1,900, a low student-faculty ratio (15:1) is maintained in the belief that small classes encourage a better exchange of ideas and knowledge and promote the quality education for which the College is known. Providing more than forty career-oriented majors, this private, four-year, liberal-arts college is located on 39 acres in Amherst, New York (a suburb of Buffalo). Daemen's small, friendly campus offers a large selection of cultural, social, fraternal, athletic, and service groups to enrich the college experience, as well as the amenities of a big community nearby. Buffalo boasts outstanding cultural and recreational resources, plus exciting major-league sports.
Academic Life
The academic program followed by Daemen College was chosen to provide liberal breadth and great depth simultaneously. This plan is marked by four characteristics: (1) a generous number of courses in the major field; (2) the building of a sequential set of courses in this field so that knowledge is acquired according to a logical progression; (3) a reading list course in the junior year, in which the student reads widely in his or her particular field; and (4) a coordinating seminar in the senior year, which provides an interdisciplinary approach and relates the student's concentration to other components of the curriculum. A minimum of 122 semester hours is required for a baccalaureate degree. One semester hour represents a lecture period of 50 minutes each week throughout a semester of fifteen weeks or a laboratory or studio period of 100 minutes each week throughoutt a semester of fifteen weeks.
Campus Life
On-campus housing is available to all students at any time. A complex of twenty modern, two-story apartment-type buildings provides separate housing for men and women; there is also a five-story residence hall for women. The services of the Academic Computing and Resource Center; the Career Development, Health Services, Placement, and Cooperative Education offices; and the Campus Ministry are always available. Daemen has few architectural barriers; handicapped men and women using wheelchairs find it easy to move throughout the campus.
Facilities and Resources
The College's modern library has more than 135,000 volumes, more than 930 periodical subscriptions, a wide selection of musical scores and records, and a complete collection of American Enterprise Institute monographs. A learning resources center augments the library. Art department facilities include ten large studios and one of the largest bronze-casting foundries of any college in the country. Students of French and Spanish find a well-equipped language laboratory in the main classroom building. The beautiful and modern new Business Building houses all of the business classrooms, including "breakout rooms" used for smaller discussion groups. There is also a computer lab, which has fifty new Pentium (IBM-compatible) computers. All of the business faculty and staff offices are conveniently located on the second floor.
Athletics/Sports
The College has varsity basketball teams for men and women, and women's volleyball. The Warriors and Lady Warriors compete in the Keystone-Empire Collegiate Conference, a Division I member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). Intramurals at Daemen currently include touch football, basketball, volleyball, and soccer. The gymnasium affords many opportunities for recreational time throughout the week. Well-equipped weight and exercise rooms and saunas add to the variety of fitness and health activities available. Other activities can include cheerleading, one-day tournaments, and other special events.
Financial Aid
Daemen believes that students should be able to choose the college that offers the best range of educational opportunities. They should not have to select one simply because its tuition is lower than another. Therefore, the College makes a conscious effort to award financial assistance in three ways: (1) based upon academic achievement, (2) based upon academic achievement and financial need, and (3) based upon financial need. Ninety-two percent of all Daemen College students receive financial aid through the New York State Tuition Assistance Program, scholarships and grants, work-study awards, or loans, with the average award being about $6,200. Daemen College participates in all federal and state financial aid programs and has private sources of scholarship monies to award to eligible students.
Admission Requirements
Daemen College accepts applications on a rolling basis with the exception of physical therapy transfers and all physician assistant students. Under the Rolling Admissions Plan, decisions on admission are made as soon as all required credentials have been submitted and reviewed by the Admissions Committee. Acceptance decisions are normally forwarded within four to six weeks after the application is received. Acceptance is pending receipt of final official transcripts, a completed medical form, and a confirmation deposit of $100 for commuting students and $200 for students requiring on-campus housing. Deposits are required no later than May 1. ð Application procedures: (1) Students interested in applying for admission need to submit the Application for Admission, fully completed and signed, along with the $25 application fee. (2) All applicants are required to submit the secondary school transcript. Transfer students are also required to forward transcripts and catalogs from each college attended, covering all courses completed. (3) Freshman applicants need to submit copies of the SAT or ACT exam scores. Scores can be sent directly to Daemen using the following college codes: SAT 2762, ACT 2874. Applicants who have been out of high school for more than two years are not required to take any of the above tests.
