Coleman College

College Description
Coleman College is nationally recognized as a leader in information technology (IT) education. Since 1963, Coleman has provided accelerated training that has helped its graduates become leaders in the IT industry.

From the first day of class, Coleman students are immersed in technology. They get extensive hands-on training and learn how to master highly technical concepts quickly — a crucial skill in today's IT field.

Our students are of all ages and backgrounds and have a wealth of diverse life experience to enhance their IT skills. Whether you're looking for a new career in IT or a new IT employee, Coleman College can help you be successful.

Academic Life
Coleman College offers short-term certificates, associate and bachelor's degrees in Computer Applications and Networks, Computer Information Science and Computer Network Technology. Coleman also offers a short-term certificate and associate degree in Computer Graphic Design and a Master of Science degree in Information Technology.

Campus Life
The most important and memorable aspect of student life at Coleman College is the close rapport each student experiences with instructors and fellow students. Small classes help achieve the close-knit academic community. Each entering class stays together throughout its core curriculum at Coleman College.

Coleman College's campuses are a short drive from every educational, cultural and recreational center in greater San Diego. Nearby are miles of Pacific beaches and the Southern California ski slopes. Within metropolitan San Diego are the world famous San Diego Zoo, Old Town State Park with its numerous centers of Spanish and Mexican heritage, Sea World, Balboa Park with its tree-lined canyons, flower gardens and many museums. Downtown San Diego's diverse cultural resources include the opera, cinemas, ballet and numerous performances by individual artists. The Computer Museum of America, formerly housed at Coleman College's La Mesa campus, has an extensive collection of antique computers on display at its facility in downtown San Diego.

Undergraduate and graduate international students are welcome at Coleman College and make up a significant percentage of the student population. All international students whose native language is not English are required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and receive a score of 500 or above, or have successfully completed level 108 (with a recommendation) or a level 109 at an ELS Language Center.

Coleman College does not provide housing. There are, however, many apartment complexes within walking distance of the College. International students and non-residents of San Diego who plan to attend Coleman College should allow at least two weeks to find housing prior to their class start.

The first campus was located in downtown San Diego, California. There are now two locations in San Diego County, in La Mesa and San Marcos. Both campuses are a short drive from every educational, cultural and recreational center in greater San Diego.

In 1992, the College offered to house the exhibit of the COMPUTER MUSEUM of AMERICA (CMA) permanently inside its main campus building. In July 2001, the Museum opened in a new location in downtown San Diego. Coleman College remains a major sponsor and our students benefit from exposure to the collection, which illustrates how far the industry has come and the potential for future growth.

Coleman offers an "inverted curriculum" that gives students their career training first. This approach allows students to become qualified for a computer-related position in a matter of months. After earning a certificate and starting a career, graduates may return to Coleman in the evening to complete an associate, bachelor's or even a master's degree.

The College has alumni working in every part of the United States and many foreign countries. In addition to traditional post-high-school undergraduates, Coleman College students include active and retired military personnel, professional people seeking new career directions, people reentering the work force, and international students who are acquiring new skills to take back to their home countries. These students attend Coleman College because of its reputation for professionalism, high academic standards and personal concern for each student.

Long recognized by numerous industry and educational organizations as a leader in computer education, Coleman has pioneered many new teaching techniques with great effectiveness. Technological developments are researched continuously so that the curricula and computer equipment for students' use may be updated accordingly.
