IN ADDITION
One of Champlain's greatest assets is its location. Burlington, Vermont is a small city (pop. 46,000) overlooking beautiful Lake Champlain and New York's Adirondack Mountains to the west. Vermont's beautiful Green Mountains dominate the eastern horizon and are home to the world class ski and snowboarding resorts of Stowe, Mad River Glen, Smuggler's Notch, and Sugarbush. Also within an hour's drive from campus are endless rivers, lakes, and mountains that offer outstanding hiking, camping, fishing, and mountain biking. While Vermont is famous for its outdoor recreational opportunities, Champlain students also take full advantage of living in one of the nation's most progressive cities. Clearly the cultural center of Vermont, Burlington offers numerous ethnic restaurants and cafes, movies, shopping, and a renovated Art Deco theater. If music is your thing, Burlington has it! Home to Phish and Strangefolk, Burlington attracts today's best bands. With five colleges in Burlington, there's always plenty to do!

College Description
Champlain College is a coeducational, private, nonprofit college founded in 1878. Its 19-acre campus, home to 1,400 students, is nestled among the stately maple trees of Burlington's historic Hill Section. Many of the College's 33 buildings, including most of the residence halls, are restored Victorian-era mansions, which give students a unique atmosphere in which to learn and live.

The two-year and four-year educational programs are designed to provide sound professional training for careers in today's complex world, as well as broadening and enriching experiences in the humanities and liberal arts. Champlain College is recognized as one of the leading career-building colleges in New England, and it has earned the respect of the business, technical, health, and human services professions for its outstanding educational programs. Champlain College is accredited by the New England Board of Schools and Colleges.

Academic Life
Champlain offers 25 majors in 4 academic divisions which include Business Administration, Accounting and Computer Systems, Community Services, and Arts and Sciences. The College offers both the Associate of Science degree and the Bachelor of Science degree in a unique 2+2 format. This structure offers students the opportunity to complete a two-year associate degree on their way to the four-year bachelor degree.

Champlain offers a number of programs designed to enhance a student's academic experience. The College's Honors English program challenges students by setting high academic standards in a small, highly interactive class environment. To compliment the rigors of academics and to meet the goal of preparing students for their chosen careers, most majors require an internship experience. These internships give students practical job experience in a professional setting. Additionally, Champlain also offers an International Exchange Program with English speaking universities in England, France, and Sweden. These programs greatly enhance a student's education by offering a unique cultural experience while increasing potential employment opportunities.

Campus Life
Champlain College goes well beyond the beauty of the campus. Clubs, activities, and leadership opportunities offer endless ways to get involved. Many activities such as student dinners, trips to Montreal, Canada, guest speakers, and movie nights begin in the residence halls. Other activities are organized by campus wide groups such as the Student Government Association, or the popular Outing Club. Champlain also employs a Weekend Activities Coordinator who arranges ski trips, campus tournaments, dances, contests, and more.

With four other colleges in town, Burlington has a student population of more than 15,000 students! This means that there is always something going on either on campus or nearby. If hanging-out is more your style, there is also a recreation center on campus with pool tables, foosball, and a large screen TV.

Facilities and Resources
The three-storey William R. Hauke Family Campus Center houses the College's auditorium, a student lounge and game room, a snack bar, a restaurant, educational labs for hotel-restaurant management and communications/public relations majors, telecommunications facilities, classrooms, and faculty offices. Freeman Hall houses science labs and Joyce Hall boasts the hotel/restaurant management/travel and tourism front desk computer teaching classroom for online reservations. Champlain's newly expanded bookstore is also located in Joyce Hall.

Champlain has just completed construction of its new state-of-the-art library facility. While incorporating the features of a traditional library, the Miller Information Commons utilizes advanced technologies such as multimedia laboratories, integrated computer networks, specialized electronic classrooms, and online distance learning systems to enhance a student's ability to conduct research. An additional six major academic buildings provide classroom, laboratory, and computer resources. More than 220 computers and terminals are available for students. All campus buildings are linked by fiber-optic cable, enabling students to access the Internet from their dorm rooms and computer labs via T-1 connections.

Athletics/Sports
Champlain College's athletic programs are tailored to both the intercollegiate athlete and the intramural athlete. Champlain competes in the National Junior College Athletic Association comprising twenty-one regions and 563 colleges throughout the nation. The women's soccer team won the NJCAA national title in 1994, while making it to the finals in three out of the last four seasons. Champlain's men's soccer program also enjoys a national ranking. The men's basketball program has a continuing history of being one of the finest in the country and has tallied four trips to the NJCAA national tournament in the past eight years. Champlain's intramural programs include aerobics, basketball, indoor soccer, outing club, skiing, snowboarding, and volleyball.

Financial Aid
Champlain's financial aid program includes loans, grants, scholarships, and work-study awards. Its purpose is to help needy students meet the full cost of their education. Champlain participates in Federal programs such as the Perkins Loan, Work-Study, Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant, Pell Grant, Stafford Student Loan, Vermont Student Assistance Corporation, and state loan and grant programs. Institutional aid is available primarily on the basis of need.

Champlain also offers competitive Success Scholarships to high school seniors entering college for the first time who have achieved academic success and have contributed to their school or community through leadership and service. Applications are available through the Admissions

Admission Requirements
Champlain requires graduation from a recognized secondary school (or equivalency certificate) as a condition of acceptance. The College also requires an official transcript, a standardized test score, and, if possible, a guidance counselor recommendation from the last school attended. A personal interview may be required of applicants to certain programs and is recommended for all candidates. Champlain accepts applications on a rolling basis and students may start college at midyear.

The baccalaureate programs are part of the 2+2 curriculum format that is unique to Champlain. Students with a 2.50 GPA after two years are automatically eligible for third-year enrollment. Others are encouraged to meet with their advisor before submitting their application to the upper division.

Applicants for transfer admission who have attended another accredited college are required to submit an official high school and college transcript to Champlain's director of admissions. Transfer students from an accredited college may receive transfer credit for courses completed with a grade of C or better.

Admission to the baccalaureate program requires graduation from a recognized secondary program or certified equivalency plus successful completion of at least 45 credits (three semesters) of college course work at Champlain or another accredited college.
