College of Saint Benedict
Bentley's campus is located in beautiful Waltham Massachusetts

College Description
Bentley College is committed to providing the most advanced business education possible. Delivered in a stimulating and close-knit campus environment, programs address the evolving needs of business with an emphasis on theory and practice. Students at Bentley study all business disciplines and gain a solid understanding of the latest computer technologies and the ways that businesses use these tools. Through course work, internships, jobs, campus activities, and study abroad opportunities, students acquire the communication, teamwork, and leadership skills necessary for career success in today’s global economy.

The largest business school in New England, Bentley has an undergraduate population of approximately 4,200 students; nearly half come from communities outside Massachusetts. About 10 percent are international students representing close to 70 countries. Seven out of 10 students live on campus. On-campus housing comprises nine residence halls and 13 apartment-style buildings, all located close to campus activities. Students choose from single-, double-, or triple-occupancy dorm rooms; apartments; or suites.

On-campus activities include a wide range of athletic events, music and theater programs, and more than 90 clubs and student organizations. The Dana Athletic Center features an indoor track, volleyball and racquetball courts, a competition-size indoor pool and diving tank, a weight room, and other facilities. College athletic facilities also include lighted tennis courts and four athletic fields.

An NCAA Division II institution, Bentley is a member of the Northeast-10 Conference, the Eastern Football Conference, and the Division I Metro Atlantic athletic Conference Hockey League. The college fields 11 varsity sports for men and 11 for women, with teams and individual players routinely qualifying for postseason competition. Students may also take part in intramural sports such as floor hockey and flag football and in recreational activities that include aerobics and fitness training.

Location
With its beautiful landscaping and attractive buildings, the college represents the best of New England college campuses and provides an inviting atmosphere for study and socializing. Located in Waltham, Massachusetts, just 10 miles west of Boston, Bentley’s 163-acre suburban campus puts the city’s many resources within easy reach. Boston is the country’s ultimate college town. From theater to art exhibits, dance clubs to alternative rock concerts, championship sports to championship shopping, Boston has the proverbial "something for everyone." And you don’t need a car to get around. The Bentley shuttle makes regular trips to Harvard Square in Cambridge -- a great location itself and just a short subway ride away from Boston.

Majors and Degress
Students have many options for shaping an academic program that fits their skills, interests, and career goals. Bachelor of Science degree programs enable students to specialize in a specific business discipline: accountancy, accounting information systems, business communication, computer information systems, economics-finance, finance, management, managerial economics, marketing, and mathematical sciences. Bentley also offers Bachelor of Arts degree programs, with majors in English, history, international culture and economy, liberal arts, and philosophy. Students may also receive a BA in mathematics or design their own arts and sciences concentration in areas such as behavioral sciences, communication, or environmental studies.

Academic Program
Known for distinctive programs at the intersection of business and technology, students learn to use information technology the way business does, as an important tool for planning, producing, marketing, and managing.

The integration of technology into the academic program stretches back more than 20 years, when Bentley, which was established in 1917, became one of the first colleges in the U.S. to require students to have personal computers. Today, laptops are required for many Bentley courses, with most offering online access to syllabi, discussion groups, course assignments, and other materials. A growing communication network gives students access to the library catalogue, centralized computing facilities, e-mail, and the Internet from their campus residences.

Hands-on experience is another key element of Bentley’s academic program. Internships, group consulting projects, service-learning assignments, and other opportunities allow students to apply classroom theory in the real worlds of workplace and community.

Bentley offers an internship program through which students earn course credit toward their degree and gain valuable work experience in their field of study. There are many internship and career resources in Boston, which makes the city a valuable learning lab for Bentley students. Students have held internship positions in organizations such as IBM, Reebok International, Big Five accounting firms, and Hewlett-Packard.

Career Services
Close to 96 percent of Bentley students find employment within six months of graduation. The Office of Career Services offers comprehensive programs to help students explore careers, develop contacts, and find employment. Resources include an on-campus recruiting program involving some 250 national and international companies, an online job-listing service available to Bentley students and alumni, an online database of student and alumni resumes, career fairs, and workshops on topics such as effective resume writing, interviewing, and job search strategies.

Faculty
Bentley has about 380 full-time and part-time faculty members; 82 percent of full-time professors hold doctoral degrees. Following the teacher-scholar model, classes are not taught by teaching assistants or graduate assistants. The average class size is 25 to 30. A number of Bentley faculty members are consultants to leading local, national, and international corporations, ensuring students perspectives on current practices and future directions in key business fields. The student-faculty ratio is 16:1.

Academic Facilities and Resources
Bentley College is preparing students to meet the new demands of an information-rich, technology-driven workplace through a business curriculum that integrates technology at every level. Supporting this curriculum is an array of academic resources, including classrooms equipped with multimedia computers and display technology, student computer laboratories with both IBM-compatible and Macintosh computers, and a Virtual Lab that offers online access to specialized software for courses.

Combining state-of-the-art technology and real-time data, the financial Trading Room is a virtual laboratory of world financial markets. The Trading Room offers firsthand exposure to financial concepts such as risk management and asset valuation.

The Marketing Technologies Showcase is a "best practices" center for studying the forces that drive buying and selling in an increasingly global, electronic economy. A range of high-end applications exposes students to the latest innovations in marketing.

The Accounting Center for Electronic Learning and Business Measurement (ACELAB) introduces students to the cutting-edge tools and technologies that have reshaped the profession of accounting.

Information Design programs at Bentley College center on creating IT products and processes that users can intuitively understand and easily employ. The technological hub of these programs is the Design and Usability Testing Center, which offers unparalleled up-close exposure to the field.

The Solomon R. Baker Library supports Bentley’s curriculum with resources that include approximately 200,000 books and journals, 8,000 periodical subscriptions, an extensive collection of annual and 10K reports, and access to electronic databases such as Lexis-Nexis, Westlaw, OCLC, Dialog, and Infotrac 2000. Videoconference equipment is also available in the library.

Costs
Tuition for both resident and nonresident students for the academic year is $34,810. Room and board costs are approximately $10,530 (double room, 13-meal plan). Additional costs include books, supplies, laptop computer, and personal and travel expenses.

Financial Aid
Bentley administers more than $36 million in undergraduate financial assistance every year, on the premise that no academically qualified student should have educational choices restricted by lack of financial resources. Bentley offers financial assistance in the form of scholarships, grants, loans, employment, and payment plans. Currently, seven out of 10 Bentley undergraduates receive some form of financial assistance.

Application Information
The application deadline for students planning to enter in September is February 1. For students planning to enter in January, the deadline is November 15. Candidates for the fall semester will be notified by April 1; spring semester candidates will be notified by December 5.

Students who have selected Bentley College as their first choice may apply as candidates for early decision. The Early Decision program is for freshmen who have shown excellent academic achievement and would like to find our early about admission and financial aid. Candidates participating in this program agree that if an offer of admission to Bentley is extended, they will withdraw any applications that have been made to other colleges. Students may also participate in the Early Action program. This program is for students who would like an early answer about admission but would prefer to keep their options open. The application deadline for both programs is December 1. Bentley College also accepts the Common Application.

Admissions Requirements
Students applying for admission to the College are encouraged to complete a solid college-preparatory program. Bentley suggests that this program include four years of English, four years of mathematics (preferably algebra I and II, geometry, and a senior-year math course), and three to four years each of history, laboratory science, and foreign language.

Along with the application, students must submit a secondary school transcript, letters of recommendation from a teacher and a counselor, and official results of either the SAT or ACT test. All international students must file an international student application. Applicants who are nonnative speakers of English must also have official results of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) forwarded to the Office of Undergraduate Admission.
