The state-of-the-art weight room with nine tons of free weights is located at Franklin Field, originally opened in 1895 for the first running of the Penn Relays, and site of the nation's first scoreboard, the first football radio broadcast (1922) and first football telecast (1939). Quaker athletes have been well represented in professional sports. Current major league baseball players include Mark DeRosa. Penn basketball games are played at the Palestra, one of the most storied buildings in hoops history, hosting more games and NCAA tournaments than any other facility.
